Introducing ‘The Cedar House’ to PipTree Cafe

PipTree’s new bespoke cabin is named for it’s Western Cedar Shingle roof which we nailed on individually by hand – it took ages! The pine structured building is designed to fulfil a range of purposes: as a place for shade from the sun, warmth in the winter (with fitted electric touch-pad heaters above the tables coming soon) and as a shelter from the wind, courtesy of having walls on two sides.

Welcome to all, but aimed primarily at dog-walkers, cyclists and ramblers, we hope it’s unique ambience will make it popular throughout the year.

Don’t shout it out (it’s not a done deal yet!) but we’re also considering making The Cedar House available for group bookings of 12-16 people in the near future, and would welcome your feedback on this idea.. would you be interested?

All About The Beans

What makes a great coffee? Why great beans of course!

Partnerships don’t come much better than the one we have with 200 Degrees Coffee Roasters of Nottingham. They’re a trail-blazing independent roastery, coffee shop chain and barista training school who are putting Nottingham on the British coffee map in a big way. What’s more, they really know their stuff, and since coffee gets pretty technical on a commercial scale we felt it was vital to get the set-up just right. We’re proud to say our staff were among the first individuals in the country to progress through their fantastic barista training program, and this set the foundations for the high standards we keep to this day.

At PipTree we use their flagship house blend called ‘The Brazilian Love Affair’, which combines two arabica beans with a third robusta to really fortify the flavour. The result is a distinct, full and well-rounded taste with plenty of caffeine and kick, but no discernable bitter or ripe notes. It’s a winner, and fully deserves the high praise it usually receives, and has been our house blend since we opened in 2015.

Brazilian Love Affair is always on sale in PipTree in 250g retail bags at £6.50, and is available regular or decaf, ground or whole bean, enabling you to drink it at home in your bean-to-cup machine or cafetière.

Construction Of New Block-Paved Pathways Is Now Underway

For three weeks beginning Monday 29th January we are block-paving the nursery shop entrance and exit and creating a paved pathway from the main carpark to the plant sales area and Cafe, then back up to the nursery shop. It’s a major undertaking and some disruption to the usual pathways around the site is unavoidable as the work progresses.

We ask that all customers please take note of site signage indicating temporary pathways and barriers that we’ve put in place, and apologies in advance for any inconvenience, things will return better than ever very soon, we promise!

Onion Sets, Shallots & Seed Potatoes In Stock Now

Just in, we are now stocking a wide variety of seed potatoes, onions, shallots and many other vegetables.  Varieties of Scottish-certified seed potatoes include first earlies, second earlies, main crops & salads, in 2kg or 2.2kg sacks, or you may prefer to buy in smaller pre-packed sizes, which are more suitable for tubs and smaller gardens.

And if you can’t decide, just ask our staff for a helping hand with your selection.

PipTree Still Rated ‘Best Cafe In Derby’ on Trip Advisor!

We can’t thank our loyal customers enough for showing what PipTree means to you by sharing your experiences on our Trip Advisor page, so much so that we now rate top out of all 63 cafes listed in the Derby area. They even awarded us a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ for doing so well!

Trip Advisor is a hugely effective way of discovering new places and we have learnt a great deal from all of your reviews over the past two years – the good and the bad ones. It’s also a way for us to respond to your questions and shed a bit of light on points you raise in response. And what’s more, through Trip Advisor’s influence, we have been been ‘found’ by an enormous number of people since we opened, many of whom are now regular visitors.

All good things… thanks to you!

Doggy Do’s & Don’ts For 2018 At PipTree Cafe

Previously all dog’s have been very welcome inside the cafe and that policy had proved to be popular with our many dog-owning visitors, but after listening to a great deal of feedback from all of our customers since we opened two years ago, we are aware that not everybody is comfortable sharing their personal space with animals, so we have decided to strike a balance by setting out some house rules out of respect to them.

  • Dogs are only permitted in the front half of the cafe – that’s tables 1 – 11
  • We only permit quiet, well-behaved & clean dogs within the cafe
  • Dog owners are please to refrain from allowing their dogs on their laps or seats and not to feed dogs from the table
  • Due to limited floor space, large dogs will no longer be permitted inside the cafe
