Native to the mountainous forests of Japan, Korea, and China, Japanese Maples are highly valued in Japanese culture, symbolizing peace, serenity, and the changing seasons.
These wonderful, deciduous plants are grown for their colour and graceful form. Often making them a focal point in gardens, framing views and enhancing the sense of tranquillity. Some are small and compact, some mound forming with a weeping habit, others larger, much more upright.
The colours in spring are vibrant, yellows, oranges, bright red and vivid greens. Summer sees those colours deepen and become more muted. Heading into autumn the colour blazes back into fiery reds, burnt oranges, and bright golden yellows before the leaves fall leaving behind the superb structure of the plant.
Acers are perfect in the borders where a light, airy, moist soil suits them best. They are also brilliant in pots and containers where they will grow happily if given water little and often throughout the growing season; April- September, and a little feed now and then.
They provide colour and interest all year round, a must in every garden. Once you have one maple in your garden, you may want more!
